Jane the Virgin

25.01.16 | jesslynnwrites | No Comments

I recently watched the first season of Jane the Virgin on Netflix in hopes of catching up in time before the second season started up again. I was successful, but not without spending a few bucks on Amazon for the first couple of episodes of season two. By the way, I am super excited for the second season return tonight 🙂

I LOVE this show. The story is great and really fun to watch. It’s in the style of a telenovella (for those who are unaware of what this is, it is basically a Spanish soap opera). Now, I have not watched a telenovella before but have heard they get pretty crazy. But so do American soap operas 🙂 Anyway, the story is narrated by this really funny guy’s voice (Anthony Mendez). He basically explains what is going on, fills in the gaps if you will, and sometimes adds his own opinion/commentary to the plot. It’s hilarious!

I love most of the characters. Actually, I love them all but as per usual I have a love/hate relationship with them almost every other episode, except for one. Jane is my favorite. I fell in love with her right away. She is so sure of herself and doesn’t take any crap from anyone. She is played by Gina Rodriguez, who is amazing and is my new favorite person 🙂 From what I can tell from watching interviews, she is a lot like Jane. Just LOVE her! Rogelio has to be my favorite after Jane. Rogelio is just so outrageous and adds so much humor to the show. He is a telenovella star, Jane’s father, and is sooo dramatic about everything. He thinks he must act at every moment. Jaime Camil plays him and he does a great job 🙂

I really get into the story as well. It’s one of those shows where you don’t want to stop watching and once you’re done you’re sad that it has ended.  I spent many a late night binge watching several episodes in a row. I just found myself wanting to find out what happens next. It’s addicting!

Let me know if you get a chance to watch this show and tell me what your favorite thing is about it.

Jess
