This is going to be a random one everyone, so bare with me.
This is a topic I have thought long and hard on and am very passionate about.
This next bit is also a little random and strange, but I’ll hope you’ll bare with me.
I had a dream the other night (actually it was about two weeks ago), mind you I have pretty strange dreams (always have) all the time, that I was (for some reason) on the new podcast Office Ladies with Angela Kinsey and Jenna Fischer. We were talking all things The Office and we got on the subject of the word ‘celebrity.’
Long story short, I told them why I hate the word and how I don’t really see my favorite actors and actresses (and you can add social media stars to that list too) as “celebrities”. I see them as people who happen to have a job that puts them in the spotlight. They go to the store to buy groceries just like you and me. They take care of their families just like you and me. They are regular people!
So why do I vehemently HATE the word ‘celebrity’? For everything I mentioned above. Remember this when you are thinking about your favorite actors, actresses, Instagrammers, YouTubers, etc. Remember this when you get to meet them in person. They are regular people and they will not bite. Believe me! I too have to remember this because much like you (I assume) I get starstruck pretty easily.
I told you this post was random. Like I said, it’s been a subject on my mind for a very long time.
On another unrelated note, would you like me to do a series where I write out my strange dreams and we can all analyze them in the comments? Is that weird? We could call it ‘Jess’s Dream Chronicles,’ or something like that. Haha! Let me know.
Back to the subject at hand. Do any of you ever think about this? Do you hate the word ‘celebrity’ as a descriptor for actors, actresses, etc.? Let me know in the comments below.
