Did anybody else think January lasted 1000 days instead of 31? Yea, same! Despite it feeling that way, I did get some good reading in. I read 5 books, which is pretty good for me. Anyway, here are my January reads and what I thought of them.

A book cover for Dinner for Vampires. The cover is a bright red orange. The writing is a bright yellow that says, 'Dinner for Vampires: Life on a Cult TV Show'. The author's name is also written in the bright yellow writing, 'Bethany Joy Lenz'. There is a picture of the author in the middle of the cover.

Dinner for Vampires by Bethany Joy Lenz

I highly recommend listening to the audiobook of Dinner for Vampires. I’m glad I did because it really let me feel immersed in her experience. Also, there are some surprise guest stars 😉 This memoir is the perfect example of you never know what someone is going through, so always be kind. As a HUGE fan of One Tree Hill, I had no idea (I guess this was the point) that Joy was going through what she went through while also filming the show. I will never be able to watch the show the same way again after reading this book. I honestly went through all of the emotions reading about her experience in a religious high control group (aka cult). Mostly frustration was my reaction; and that was mostly directed at the group and not Joy. People are so cruel and ruthless.

A book cover for Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez. The cover is light blue and dark blue. There is a drawing of two people, the main characters, and a goat. The writing is in orange and yellow.

Part of Your World by Abby Jimenez

One, check your trigger warnings with this one. Two, Part of Your World is now the reason Abby Jimenez is my newest auto-buy author. This was my first from Abby and boy am I glad about it! The interactions between Alexis and Daniel had me giggling and kicking my feet. Daniel is quintessential man written by a woman and should be standard. Newest book boyfriend? Check! I get the hype now! Abby Jimenez, you are a genius! Overall, I really enjoyed reading this, even though there were some things I was shaking my head at. One of my favorite parts involved a baby goat and a cute moment between Daniel and Alexis. I don’t want to give too much away, but it involves kissing and a shirt button.

Heartstopper book cover. The two main characters are drawn on the cover and shown side hugging each other. The cover is purple and pink. The writing is yellow and white.

Heartstopper Vol. 4 & 5

As someone who watched the show first and then read the Heartstopper graphic novels, my reading experience was okay. These pretty much follow what happens in the show. So, if I were you I would hold off on watching the show (if you haven’t yet) and read these first. I will say though that the issues that both Charlie and Nick go through in Vol. 4 are addressed very well. Overall, these are quick reads…as expected from a graphic novel.

The Third Gilmore Girl book cover. The cover has a picture of the author, Kelly Bishop, posing. She's in a dark red shirt. There is a white background and the writing is in black and red.

The Third Gilmore Girl by Kelly Bishop

Kelly Bishop is a fascinating woman. I really enjoyed listening to The Third Gilmore Girl. She mostly talks about her career in this memoir, but there are a few personal stories about her family and relationships sprinkled throughout. The one thing that did surprise me though was the fact that she has watched every single episode of Gilmore Girls. It’s very rare to hear an actor/actress watches anything of the projects they’ve been in.

I know this is coming late. I have been a bit behind in posting content on here. That being said, I’m curious to know if any of you have read any of these and if you have what did you think? Leave your responses in the comments 🙂

Don’t forget to check out my 2024 reading wrap-up.
