I read some great books this month, mostly romances, but hey ho! Sometimes that’s just what I’m in the mood for. Here is everything I read in August.

Audiobooks

Glow of the Everflame by Penn Cole

I really enjoyed the narrator. Amanda Dolan is great at adding voices of all the characters (even the male ones) without making it cringey. With the first one setting the tone and setting up the world/plot, this one started getting really into the dynamics of the characters. The story is finally getting good, and I enjoyed listening to it develop. However, I wish I had the phyiscal/e-book so I could really immerse myself in the story.

I also have a separate review for this book that you can find here. I will say that Caroline Corvin is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. Gotta support those indie authors!

I was really looking forward to reading this one because this was my favorite character’s story, but I had only one gripe. The relationship between Wes and Ada happened soo fast. I think it could have done with a little bit more pacing and build-up to them falling in love with each other. Other than that, it was a good book. Wes is such a sweetheart, and I love that he went at Ada’s pace and made sure she was comfortable. My favorite part was the kitchen scene when they decided to go a little further than they had been going. All I have to say is microwavis interuptis 😂

First-Time Caller by B.K. Borrison

This was my first B.K. Borrison book and boy am I glad it was! Albeit it being kind of a slow start, by the middle, all I wanted to do was read it in one sitting. It was cute, it was real, it was a beautiful story. This one is based loosely on the movie Sleepless in Seattle, which I enjoyed even if it’s been a long time since I’ve watched it. I enjoyed the elements of the radio station and the daughter of the FMC calling into the radio show to get her mom a date. It was funny. There were lots of parts where I found myself laughing out loud and giggling.

I also felt a kindred spirit thing going on with the FMC, Lucy. She’s a hopeless romantic and finds it hard to connect, and finds dating a slog. She just wants it to happen without all the work. I feel ya girl! And Aiden, our curmudgeonly MMC, who runs a radio show about love, but he himself has lost faith in it. I had a fun time reading his chapters.
