October was not my best reading month. I was definitely feeling a reading slump coming on. I don’t know if it was that I was just over reading spooky season books or what. Anyway, here is what I manage to eke out in October.

Finished

Book cover for Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood. It is purple and orange with different color books around the edges. There is a woman and her cat sitting on a window seat ledge. The woman is reading a book/spellbook. She is wearing a mustard yellow sweater and blue jeans. She is barefoot and has brown, long hair. The cat has marled hair (tan and dark brown). There is a moon outside and a silhouette of a clock tower. There is a magenta pillow that the woman is leaning against & a teal blue blanket she is sitting on. There are purple curtains with stars on them framing the curved window. Also outside the window, there is a crescent moon, an orange house, a tree with orange leaves, & a lamppost. The writing is purple and white.

Rewitched by Lucy Jane Wood-Physical

This was a reread to prepare for Lucy’s next book, Uncharmed. I wanted to dive back into the world of Selcouth and not go straight in with Uncharmed. A year later, and this one still holds up. Still one of my favorite books I’ve ever read and I can’t and won’t stop recommending it.

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins book cover. It's all black with the Mockingjay pin on the left side. The writing is white.

The Hunger Games-Audio

This was another reread for me. I watched the movies a couple months ago and suddenly got the urge to reread the series. The audio was alright. Tatianna Maslany is the narrator and she did an alright job. I think I would have loved this more if it was full cast audio. Also, I did that thing where I get distracted and stop listening at parts of the audiobook. The next two, I’m gonna immersive read so I stay focused.

Inheriting Magic by Jennifer Love Hewitt-Audio

This one turned out to be a lot different than I thought it was going to be. I thought this would be more memoir and sadly it is not. It’s more like a “how-to” guide with some of JLH’s stories sprinkled in. I did appreciate her sharing those stories, I just wished there were more.

Started

Voyager by Diana Gabaldon book cover. The whole cover is a dark forest green. There is an emblem in the middle shaped like a horseshoe pin. The writing is gold and yellow.

Voyager-Kindle

Now, Voyager wasn’t one I had just started. It was more I am trying to continue and finish. Spoiler alert! I still hadn’t finished it this month. My goal is to finish it in November.

Book cover for NMLDB by Caroline Corvin. The two MCs are standing next to each other. The MMC is wearing a white button up shirt with a black vest over it. He's wearing matching black pants and brown shoes. The sleeves are rolled up. He has messy red hair. The FMC is wearing a long green dress with a high slit. She is wearing black high heels with a strap. She has long blond hair. They are standing under an archway covered in a red piece of fabric that is draped, and a Christmas garland. There are Christmas wreath displays at the bottom and lining a red carpet aisle. The writing is in white.

Not My Little Drummer Boy by Caroline Corvin-Kindle/eARC

I wanted to get a head start on my Christmassy reads and since this ARC came through, I thought why not. I have a separate review up for this one, so go check it out.

DNF

I don’t typically have books that I’ve DNFed, but this month I had a couple.

The Sound Between Us by Anna Bloom book cover. There are various music paraphernalia all over, like a cassette tape and guitar neck. The writing is yellow and white.

The Sound Between Us by Anna Bloom-Kindle/eARC

It’s not that I didn’t want to read this book, it’s more that I wasn’t in the right mindset to read this book. This was one of the many ARCs that I had on the go and I just simply ran out of time to read before the release date. It is out now and I think this has turned out to be a soft DNF for me. I would love to return to it at some point, it just won’t be any time soon.

Book cover for Desiring Your Love by Valery Archaga. The main part is a light green and there is a line drawing of a soccer field. There is a clipboard on the upper right side. A soccer ball on the bottom right side. A stethoscope on the bottom left corner. A couple pink flowers are on the upper left corner. The writing is pink.Desiring Your Love by Valery Archaga-Kindle/eARC

UGH! This one started out okay. The story was interesting. The characters were good. But then I reached the first love scene between the FMC and the MMC and I was OUT. It was sooo cringe and I just couldn’t do it. I simply had to DNF. I will not be picking this book up ever again.

Like I said, it was an alright month. It could have been better. It’s rare that I will have any DNFs in a month, but this was an unusual one with two. I would love to know what your favorite book of the month was. Leave those in the comments.

Read last month’s reading wrap-up.
