This was a slower month of reading, but I got through. When you have a book that is over 700 pages and you feel like it’s going to take forever to read (spoiler alert: it took me all month to read it), it’s understandable that you don’t get a lot of books read. Not that I was putting pressure on myself to read a ton. Was I sad that I didn’t get to some of the books I set out to read this month? Sure, but there’s always next month right? Anyway, here are my May reads.
Fall from Grace by Stephanie Napolitano
I’m not going to give you my whole review of Fall from Grace because you can read that here. However, I will give you this…If you want spice. If you want small town romance. If you want an FMC that reminds you of Blair Waldorf/Serena Van Der Woodsen from Gossip Girl. Finally, if you want to be in happy tears by the end this is the book for you. This was such a beautiful story of finding yourself again and finding the people who truly see you for you.
The Duke and I by Julia Quinn
Meh! But to be fair, Daphne’s story isn’t my favorite of the Bridgerton siblings’ stories. After reading this book in two mediums (physical and audiobook forms), I have now figured out that I would rather physically read the rest of these books than listen to them on audiobook. I just really didn’t enjoy the narrator and I think I can still get the same effect just reading the b0ok. Besides, if I wanted to listen to the story I would just turn on the show.
Dragonfly in Amber by Diana Gabaldon
I have continued my journey in the Outlander book series with the second one this month and it’s safe to say that it wasn’t my favorite so far. To be fair though, I decided to half listen on audiobook and half physically read the Kindle copy. It was a mistake to listen to the audiobook version. As much as I listened to it for necessity (not great at the Gaelic in this story), I now don’t recommend doing so. It kind of hindered my reading and my enjoyment of this book. I also found that it started to drag towards the end. These books are already super long (this one is over 700 pages!) and having the story drag and become kind of boring is not a good sign.
Heartless Hunter by Kristen Ciccarelli
This was a reread for me to prepare for the second book in The Crimson Moth duology. Guys! It was just as great the second time! This time I decided to annotate and it helped me absorb more of it this second time around. I read it so fast the first time I felt like I wasn’t processing it fast enough. The angst, the enemies to lovers back to enemies of it all, the love that Rune has for the two brothers…man! Just as captivating! This has turned into one of my favorite books of all time.
Now for my favorite read of the month. This was hard (especially since I reread Heartless Hunter), but this distinction is going to go to Fall From Grace. When you can make this girl cry while reading, it has to be my favorite book of the month. And it truly was besides that.
